Digital art was known as computer art and multimedia art in the 70s. Now, digital art is more recognized as new media art. These refer to the wide range of artistic works and practices that use digital technology as its medium. Traditional art has been transformed using digital technology and has made painting, drawing and sculpture more accessible and visible as net art.
Digital art techniques are often used extensively in mainstream media for advertisements and in films for special effects. In publishing, the extent of what a graphic designer can do using digital art has made a huge impact to the visual attractiveness of any published work. In music, technology has made artists sound better and has produced sounds purely generated by the computer. Some digital art can be purely computer-generated. An example of this is a fractal which is infinitely complex object of fragmented geometric shape. It can also be sourced from other objects as in the case of pictures which can be scanned, modified and printed with the appropriate software. Digital Photography is now considered a major art form and is an acceptable medium of creation and presentation by major museums and galleries who were originally drawn to traditional art. With better appreciation of technology, digital art has created for itself a niche of enthusiasts and supporters.
